Port Perry, 16.07.2007 --- Everyone dreams of one day winning "the big one", and for Joanne McLeod, Norma Lewis-Lamoureux, Kim Clowes, Kim Potts and Susan Potts, five of seven sisters, this dream became reality at the Great Blue Heron Charity Casino. On Friday, 16 February 2007, each of these lovely ladies left the casino almost one million dollars richer, representing their share of over $4.9 million dollars won while playing the Megabucks Wide Area Progressive Slot Machines.
The sisters were at the casino on a girl's weekend when Joanne McLeod hit the Megabucks Jackpot at 11:01 pm. The "life changing" payout of $4,956,920 was a Great Blue Heron Charity Casino record, dwarfing the previous record of $2,056,353 set by Ken Morris on 6 September 2006.
This was another milestone for the casino as it was the third time the Megabucks Jackpot had been won at the Great Blue Heron, and the third largest Megabucks Jackpot ever paid out in Ontario. Megabucks is a progressive prize slot machine that links all commercial and charity casino sites within the state.
These wonderfully effervescent ladies intend on using a portion of the money to build a larger house for their niece to help raise her six children. "This is amazing," beamed Susan Potts. "It is going to be life changing. I'll pay my bills and help my girls. My daughter will now no longer have to work three jobs." Kim Potts said that her husband would now get his dream Corvette.
"I was at your establishment when the lady won the big one on Megabucks! What a hoot!" exclaimed a Great Blue Heron Charity Casino patron in attendance on the night of the win.
"We are so excited for these wonderful ladies," said Director of Slot Operations Stacy Millar. "This record jackpot is a great win, and we couldn't be happier for them".
Casinos Austria International (CAI) has operated the Great Blue Heron Charity Casino on behalf of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation since the casino first opened in 1997. It is one of Ontario's most popular casino properties and one of CAI's most successful operations worldwide.
